Lily is an Artist from a small village near
the Hague in the Netherlands. Before returning to her first love
of painting she was a noted doll Artist; with public exhibitions of her whimsical
"Popjects" in Galleries, Congress and Germany's, Spielzeug Museum; earning Lily
the honor of becoming Holland's first NIADA member. Her techniques
were showcased in a comprehensive book about doll making.
I first saw her work in a magazine article
long before we met and was instantly drawn to her decorative characters.
Imagine my surprise when I attended my first New York International Toy Fair
with Thomas Boland in 1995, and next to my display was Lily and her wonderful
art.
It seemed as though we had never been strangers
as we discovered our many common interests. We were instant friends and
over the years, she has entertained me with her wonderful drawings of her family,
pets and home; while trying to teach me a few words of Dutch (with not much
success on my part). Time away from her art is usually spent decorating
her home; a passion we both indulge in.
Returning to her study of Art, Lily recently
became a member of the Amateur-Palet Society and contributes a monthly cartoon
to their magazine. A painting is exhibited in De Haagse
Kunstkring; a prestigious Gallery of the Hague.
In watercolors; Lily is able to capture the
soft touch of a child's face, the sharp lines of a fashion illustration, and
the comic flair of a cartoon.
Her illustrations of the
"Dilly Wizards"
capture them in the way I intended, and it profiles the nature of a multi-talented
Artist.
